ARMIJO, ARTHUR A. ARTHUR A. ARMIJO IN MEMORIAM July 13, 1960 – August 8, 1993 ARTHUR was a leading performer with Susan Marshall and Company in New York. He was 33 and lived in Brooklyn. Arthur was a modern dancer with a hypnotic presence and calm, and a way of investing even simple steps or poses with a quiet grandeur. He received a 1990 Bessie Award for what the award citation described as “an ever-unfolding drama of humanity by a superlative dancer and partner” in Marshall’s choreography. Arthur was born in Albuquerque. He graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1978, then studied for several years at the University of New Mexico. He moved to New York in 1981 and joined the Marshall company the following year. He also performed with Dan Wagoner, Charles Moulton, Codanceco, and Alicia Perea. His last performance was on June 3, 1993 in Marshall’s “Standing Duet,” which was dedicated to Arthur by the choreographer in recognition of his “profound artistry and unceasing inspiration.” Arthur achieved many, many accomplishments during his short life. He dared to take on the things he loved most, as well as things unknown which brought great challenge yet wonderful adventure. He is dearly missed, and forever admired and loved. Arthur is the son of Cecilia and Eutimio Armijo of Albuquerque, and a brother to Diego of San Diego and Christina, Victor and Victoria of Albuquerque. On Facebook: Remembering Arthur Armijo.
