Obituary for DUGANNE

DUGANNE, PAUL R. Age 89, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at his home in Paradise Hills surrounded by his loving wife Lorraine “Mickey”; son, David; and daughter, Martha. He was born in Duncansville, PA, to Uhl Revere and Martha Mae Duganne. Paul and Lorraine “Mickey” Harjoe, were married in 1953, in Muskogee, OK, having met in Window Rock, AZ. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother, A.W. “Pete”; niece, Susan Dangel. He is survived by his loving wife, Mickey; son, David of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Martha of Santa Fe, NM; niece, Jill Bulman and Deane W. of Duncansville, PA; grand-nephews, Josh Bulman and wife, Amy; Andrew Dangel and wife, Jennifer; other dear Dangel-Duganne-Harjoe-Wilt in-laws and relatives. Paul was a U. S. Army Air Force Veteran and was stationed at Freeman Field, IN, and Luke Field, AZ, during his enlistment. He attended the New England Aircraft School in Boston, MA, acquiring aviation maintenance skills. He served as propeller specialist on T-6 Trainers and flew as a crew member on B-24s. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California, graduating Cum Laude, and earned his Masters and Educational Specialist Degrees from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Paul was a veteran educator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs among the Navajo (Dine’). Paul’s career included teaching and Principal positions at Ft. Defiance, Klagetoh, Steamboat, and Toyei, AZ, and Naschitti, NM. He also served as a Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts and provided support for Girl Scout programs. Paul and Mickey instilled a joy for lifelong learning to their children through many fun and educational summer vacation trips that spanned the East to West coasts. Paul was inspired by Charles Lindberg’s Atlantic crossing in a small airplane, and became an avid aviation enthusiast. He earned his Pilot’s License and attained his Commercial Pilot and Instructor certification. His family remembers sharing many beautiful flights in the open skies of the Southwest with their Dad. He was one of the more active members of the Window Rock Flying Club, which owned a Piper J-3 Cub. He flew as a charter pilot and flight instructor for Gallup Flying Service, Gallup, NM. He was also instrumental in the formation of the first Civil Air Patrol cadet squadron located in Window Rock, AZ. He also helped fly Navajo patients home upon the closure of the Ft. Stanton Tuberculosis Hospital, NM. Paul maintained membership in Logan Lodge #490 F. & A.M., Altoona, PA, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM with Pastor David Snyman officiating. A Reception will be held at the Church following the Memorial Service. Interment will be held later. Paul’s family would like to thank everyone who has offered their support.
