GERE, ANNE L. Passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on August 6, 2013 in Carmichael, CA. Born in Greensburg, PA on February 7, 1918 to her parents John and Isabelle Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald (2001), and son Donald Jr. (2002). She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife Barbara; grandson Timothy and his wife Kelly, all of Carmichael, CA; grandson Andrew and his wife Alena, of Chico, CA; daughter-in-law Stephanie (Donald Jr.) of Los Angeles; granddaughter Mollie and her husband Rick Garcia; granddaughter Hannah and her husband Matt Braun, all of Burbank, CA; six great-grandchildren (all girls); and several nieces and nephews. Anne moved from Pennsylvania to Albuquerque when she was five years old eventually graduating from the University of New Mexico in 1939 where she was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and where she met Donald, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. They were married in 1940. Anne was a woman of many talents but her greatest joy came from her family, horses, antiques and painting. She taught riding in Southern California and New Mexico and was instrumental in the founding of the New Mexico Dressage Society and helped train the first Albuquerque Mounted Police Unit in 1976. She traveled with her mother, Isabelle (Lucas) Spitzmesser, on many antique buying trips and used her artistic skills in refinishing many of the furniture pieces for her mother’s business in Albuquerque. Anne continued to paint into her 90′s and was active in the Rio Grande Art Association and the Albuquerque Old Glass Club. She will also be remembered for her cute smile and her beautiful blue eyes. Graveside service in Albuquerque to be announced at a later date.
