ALDRIDGE, DORIS MAY Age 88, a resident of Edgewood, NM, pass- ed away on Monday night, September 24, 2012. She was born in Bronte, TX on January 20, 1924, to Jesse and Maggie (Wilson) Forrester. She grew up in Iraan, Texas, played flute and piccolo, and loved learning. Doris attended Iraan, Texas elementary and high school, graduating in 1940 at the age of 16, as valedictorian of her class. She attended Texas State College for Women (Denton, TX), receiving a bachelor of arts in education, in 1943. In 1956 she received her master’s in Elementary Education from Texas Christian University (Ft. Worth, TX) and did post-graduate doctoral work at Texas Christian University. Doris was an elementary (5th grade) school teacher for 41 years. She first taught at the young age of 19 and retired in 1986. Doris taught at rural schools in Texas, Kansas, New Mexico and California before settling in Albuquerque in 1960 and teaching at Bel Air & Arroyo Del Oso Elementary Schools. Doris was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church for the past 37 years. She moved to Edgewood in 2002 and attended Holy Cross Episcopal Church at that time. Doris always said the Bible was her favorite book, it was “good reading material.” Her greatest achievements were her family, friends, students, living life and doing the things she loved. She was preceded in death by parents; brother, Harold Forrester; sister, Frances Forrester Pennington; special friends, Valiria Mae Brown, Walter and Esther Heidenreich. Doris is survived by daughter, Pamela Ann Ball and her husband John; grandchildren, Nathan Tucker, Jason Ball, and Amanda Ball; sister, Bea Forrester; brother, Donald Forrester and his wife June; nieces and nephews, Dana Caruso and her husband Steve, and their son Donovan, Donald Forrester and his sons Brayden and Ethan, Cari Forrester, Melissa Mitchell and her husband David and their daughter Hayley, Michele Merten; and very special lifelong friends, Peggy Bell, Marge Nevitt and Doris Merten. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 2:00 pm, at Del Norte Baptist Church, at 5800 Montgomery Blvd NE, Albuquerque. Officiating will be Rev. Raymond Raney and Rev. Chris Groves. Reception will follow at Del Norte Conference Center. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to an ongoing annual scholarship fund for college bound seniors from the Moriarty FFA Chapter in honor of Doris.
