FAIX, JOSEPH L., COL. (RET.) a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the age of 68. He is survived by his girlfriend, Andrea Ricciardi, of Albuquerque; and son Chris Faix; daughter-in-law Josie Faix; and grandchildren Jack and Lola Faix, all of Denver, CO. Col. Faix was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Gertrude Faix; his brother, John Faix, and son, Mark Faix. A graduate of the Air Force Academy (’66), he had a distinguished career as a pilot, squadron commander, test pilot, and instructor. After his Air Force retirement, Col. Faix put his test and evaluation skills to good use as a government contractor. He was a loving and generous father, grandfather, boyfriend, and friend to many. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die” (Thomas Campbell). A memorial visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012 and a memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012. ADKINS, WILLIAM EDWARD a longtime resident of Albuquerque, aged 85, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was embraced by the Lord and taken to his heavenly home on Monday, November 19th. Bill is survived by his spouse of 63 years, Betty Adkins; children, Larry Adkins and his wife Susie of Albuquerque, Gayle Rosenkoetter and her husband, Paul, of Livermore, CA; five grandchildren, Zack and Melissa Adkins, Josh and Angela Adkins, Seth Adkins, Brent and Malory Rosenkoetter, and Dana Rosenkoetter; and one great -grandchild, Ethan Adkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafayette and Verna Adkins of Anadarko, OK, two brothers and two sisters. After serving two years in the US Army, 1945-1947, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK and his Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma. During his 25 years as an administer in Albuquerque Public Schools, Bill was the principal of Hawthorne, Hayes/Embudo, Yucca, Inez and Rio Rancho Elementary School. He and Betty retired from APS in 1987. For fifteen years, they traveled extensively, pulling their fifth wheeler all across the United States with their dear friends George and Donna Barr and Ray and Ruth Barela. Additionally, they took numerous cruises and trips throughout the Americas and Europe. Bill and Betty have loved the mountains since moving to Albuquerque in 1960, so it was natural for them to have a cabin. They chose Vallecito Lake near Durango, CO to build their mountain getaway. With the help of family and friends, during the course of four years, they built their “dream” cabin. Since 1982 it has been the gathering place for their family and guests. BESS, SANDRA S. born April 1, 1943, a native of New Mexico, died October 15, 2012. Sandra was an Episcopal priest for 34 years. She served in the Diocese of the Rio Grande, in the west Texas towns of Terlingua, Lajitas, Marfa, Alpine, Fort Davis, Pecos and Van Horn. From 1980 to 1983 she was archdeacon. Prior to her retirement, she was the founding vicar of San Gabriel the Archangel Episcopal Church in Corrales, New Mexico (2005 – 2009). San Gabriel recently became a parish in the Diocese of the Rio Grande. Sandra was an associate rector at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1999 until 2005, and the Vicar of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Socorro, New Mexico. She was also a hospital chaplain and a hospice chaplain. Before becoming a priest Sandra worked training horses and young people to ride and show horses in New Mexico and Kansas. She was an accomplished rider and wonderful teacher. Ms. Bess graduated from Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Fort Hayes College in Kansas. She earned her Master of Divinity degree at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California in 1977. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Barbara Bess. She is survived by her brothers, Christopher and wife, MaryAnn, James and wife, Melody Zownir, Robert and wife, Phyllis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Road NW, Albuquerque, NM at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28. A reception at the church will follow. ALDERETTE, ELOY A resident of Albuquerque went Home to His Maker Wednesday, November 28, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6th in Wagon Mound, NM and lived in Raton where his paternal grandparents lived and in Roy until he moved permanently to Albuquerque in 1957. Eloy was a talented artist and sign painter painting all types of signs until he suffered a severe stroke in May 2009. Before his stroke he was painting window signs for select Farmer’s Markets, Fruit Basket and Nice and Fresh Stores. Mr. Alderette enjoyed the horse races, playing the slot machines at the casino, watching Spanish novelas and listening to Oldies Music and of course the Denver Broncos. He was preceded in death by his father, Cristobal; his brother, Ricardo “Dicky” Alderette and more recently by his mother, Mary G. Esquibel in Clayton. Eloy is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Irene; his children, Tim Alderette, Anita Alderette and partner, Perry Cordova, Carla Navarrette and husband, Rick; sisters, Carolyn Baca and husband, Gilbert, Sharon Sandoval and husband, Carlos of Clayton, Nancy Valdez and his step-father, Onesimo Esquibel of Clayton; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and many other family members including his caring sister- in law and brother in law, MaryAlice and John Gallegos, their daughter, Roxanne Romo and husband, Geno and their children, Destiny, Eugene and Jade. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cathryn; children, William and wife, Paula, Dr. Daniel and wife, Andrea of Asheville, NC, Janet Tooker and husband, Tom; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanette Preketes and husband, Nicholas. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Alvina and Elmer Eglinton; sister, Helen; and brother, Bob. After serving in the US Navy in WWII, Thomas and Cathryn were married in Panama and later moved to Albuquerque, where he became a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor, retiring from Sandia National Labs in 1986. He was a devout Lutheran, who taught Sunday school and bible classes and wrote Christian poetry. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, spending time at their mountain retreat in Pecos, NM and the companionship of numerous dogs. Born in Missouri and raised in Chicago, Illinois he became a member of the 82nd Airborne during WW II. He was a school teacher and civil engineer in Texas and New Mexico. Richard loved sports and passed this enthusiasm to his family and friends. After his retirement from the BIA he traveled through North and South America, Europe and Asia. His latest reading included books about Egypt and love. He will be missed by his many friends and family of five children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Glen was on the Emergency Response Team at work and he also served on the Community Partner Council providing donations to nonprofit organizations helping the community through General Mills. Glen was a kind, gentle, and compassionate soul. Glen enjoyed traveling, golf, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his granddaughters. Laura was a lifelong resident of New Mexico raised on a ranch in Clayton. She and her husband Foy enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and were members of a Good Sam group. They had many good trips with friends and family. They also enjoyed camping out and playing horseshoes. Laura especially loved playing games. She was an avid competitor and loved dominoes and Skip-Bo. She loved to win. Laura will be greatly missed by her family and always remembered with love.
