HILLIARD, JANE MAUK age 93. Funeral services for Jane Mauk Hilliard, 93, of Portales will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Portales with the Rev. Michael Brunk officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Lee Hilliard, Phillip Wayne Goerge, Phillip Wayne George II, John Gentry, Raymond Kobernick, Brett Leach, Jerry Everhart and David Raybould serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Collin Hilliard, Cyrus McKnight, Jr., David Stone, Barry Stone, Joe Marion Blair, Bobby Borden, Vern Witten, Gerald Crozier, Glenn Terry Ezell, Howard Perry, Gayle Ferguson, Richard Hood, Steve Howl, Harry Jordan, Bob Morgan, Rick Uhlig, Bill Wahlman, Orlando Ortega, Keith Hilliard, Ernie Lucero, Grady Jenkins, Buck Wilson, Dennis Darrow, David Myers, Stuart Ingle, Stephen Quinn and other devoted friends and family. Ave. K, Portales, NM 88130. Jane Elizabeth Mauk Hilliard was born October 23, 1919 in Tucumcari, NM to the home of Ida and John V. Mauk and died at her home in Portales on February 8, 2013. IFILL, OLIVER Oliver died on 2/10/13 peacefully as he slept. Oliver was born in Barbados, West Indies, April 14, 1944 and immigrated with his family to the US at age 9. He is survived by his wife Maria; his children Kimberly and Christina; his grandchildren Pierre, Dominique and Monay and great-granddaughter, Deiana; his brothers Rev. Earle Ifill; Roberto Ifill and his sisters Maria Philip and Gwen Ifill. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dr. O. Urcille and Eleanor Ifill and his brother Richard. Oliver was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend to everyone. He married Maria in 1972; they lived in San Francisco and San Rafael for 25 years and moved to NM in 1999 to help care for his mother and father-in-law. He was an artist, gardener, fisherman and avid puzzle solver. After he retired in 1987 from the Social Security Administration he also became a wonderful chef. Oliver was most grateful and fortunate to receive a heart transplant in April 1995; this new heart extended his life almost eighteen years. He was curious about everything and never stopped learning about everything around him. He woke up every morning with a new conversation and went to bed discussing something new every night. He will be deeply missed by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, father-in-law, many loving sisters and brothers in -law, nieces and nephews and all his relatives and friends who knew and loved him. Oliver specifically asked that “there should be no funeral service after I am goneJust take a little time and think of all the things you did for me and be happy. Please remember that I am thankful for the time you spent with me and all those gifts I received from your heart and soul.” In turn, we are also grateful for all the wonderful things Oliver did for all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed but his spirit will live on in our hearts. A celebration of his life will be held for his birthday in April. DUNKIN, AULTY R. &Quot;MUTT&Quot; was born on January 8, 1928 in Heavener, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the age of 85. After leaving Oklahoma in 1947 he went to California and was soon drafted into the Army. He served a two year assignment in Ft. Benning, Georgia and upon honorable discharge, settled in Flagstaff, Arizona where he met and married his wife, of 61 years, Josephine. He started a family and a career in the local lumber industry and in 1966 moved to Albuquerque. After a 40 year lumber industry career he retired from Duke City Lumber Company in 1990. He spent his retirement years enjoying family, hunting, fishing, sports, and helping people in the neighborhood. Mutt will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; two sons, Sam, Gary and wife, Karen; two sisters, Melba Holsomback, Dorothy Law-McCalister and husband, Claudie; three grandchildren, Zachary and wife, Chris, Dustin and wife, Kei Kei and granddaughter Nicole; one great-grandchild, Devon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. BALDING, JEFFREY EARL of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully in his home on February 11, 2013 with his loving wife Paula by his side. To know Jeff was to love him, he was a force of nature with a magnetic personality that drew people to him. He was the light and life of every gathering and embraced everyone with his warmth and humor. For those of us that were lucky enough to call him husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, or friend, there will forever be a huge void and emptiness in our hearts and lives. Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Paula Otero-Balding; daughters, Jessica, Susannah and her fiancee Randy Fender; sons, Alexander Balding, Nelson Culley and his fiancee Kiele Padama; his step-children, Mark McCrea and his daughters Jade and Kiara, Cassandra Cruz and her husband Cain and Craig Ford; sisters Sherry Kirk, Jennifer Betterson her and husband Tom, and Elizabeth Griffith. Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father SMSgt (ret.) Lawrence M. Balding, mother Thelma J. Balding, and sister Cathy. Services will be held at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Saturday, 16 February, 2013 at 8:00 am. BROWDER, ASHLEY RENE Age 21, was called to heaven on the morning of February 10, 2013. Ashley was born in Bishop, CA on May 21, 1991, to Donna and Charles Browder. Ashley is survived by her sister Lindsay Browder; mother Donna Browder; father Charles Browder and his fiancee Joanne Trujillo. Donna’s parents Dannie and Vicki Serfoss, Donna’s brothers, Dannie Serfoss (Barbara), Andy Serfoss (Brie), Charles’ mother Adela Browder. His father Gene Browder (Linda). Charles’ sister Paula (Mike) Chenault. Also Ashley’s many cousins Adam, Lori, Cody, Colton, Hope, Matt, John and Chad. Ashley brightened the lives of every person that knew her and she will truly be missed. DEVOTI, RUTH LYNN Age 57, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013. She was born in Gallup, New Mexico on August 22, 1955. She left behind her loving husband of 30 years, Donald Devoti; three children, Marisa, Dante, and Adriana Devoti; and future son-in-law, Matthew Mirabal. She is survived by her father, Retired Senator Lidio Rainaldi Sr.; mother, Helen Rainaldi; and brother, Dr. Lidio Rainaldi Jr., all of Gallup; in-laws, Frank and Jeanette Devoti of Albuquerque; many cousins and countless friends. Ruth was a loving mother, devoted wife, and loved by all. She is known by many as their compassionate Dental Hygienist for 35 years. Wallace retired in 1989 from ABF Trucking Company after driving semi trucks for over 37 years. He served in WWII as a Special Forces machinist for the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Izzi was preceded in death by her parents, Francesco and Josephine Viola; and sister, Nuccia Lista. Theresa was born in Terranova Di Pollino, Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1963. She was a member of Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church. CLAUS, JEANNETTE SMITH was born June 23, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, and married Richard Claus in 1950. In 27 years of marriage to a mining geologist, she lived in places as far-flung as Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Corpus Christi TX, Minneapolis MN, and Tucson AZ before coming to settle permanently in Albuquerque from 1973 on. She passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Albuquerque, NM. Jeannette will be remembered for her love of spending time with her family and gardening. She was an active member of Evangel Christian Center Church and was retired from 20 years of service with the University of New Mexico, most of it as head secretary of Computer Science Dept. Jeannette is survived by her four children: Mark and wife Wanda of California, Steve, Patricia, and Tom, all of Albuquerque; three grandchildren: Frankie, Terry, and Jose; as well as other family and friends who loved and will miss her greatly. GERST, THOMAS E. 1945-2013 Tom was born and raised in Muskegon, MI. The next 49 years of his life were spent living in Scottsdale, AZ and Albuquerque, NM. For the past four years, he and his wife MaryAnn traveled extensively in their 5th wheel RV, enjoying the beauty of nature. Tom’s love for photography was only surpassed by his love for bicycling and hiking in the mountains of NM and CO. Last year he put over 5,000 miles on his bicycle riding and touring by himself and with his great biking buddies. There was never a mountain pass too high for Tom to ascend! Tom is survived by his wife of 41 years, MaryAnn; son Steve Rizzo, daughter-in-law Tracy; granddaughters Tyler and Madison,; and sister Joanne Gerst. Joyce resided in Belen for 30 years where she worked with the Presbyterian Hospital System, served as a literacy volunteer and ESL tutor and was a founding member of the Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Commission. She was an active member of the Baha’i Faith in which she served locally and internationally. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Chalmers. She is survived by her brother, Neil Boggs a resident of Belen; and her three married children, Karen and Tim Mings of Albuquerque, Robert and Natalia Chalmers of Columbia, MD and Valerie and Greg Heikes of Cary, North Carolina. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. CUTLER, RUTH G. April 11, 1916 – February 18, 2013 Ruth was born on a farm outside of Frankfort, Illinois. She had fond memories of her time spent teaching all ages in a one room school house in Will County, Illinois. She married Earl Cutler in 1938 and became a vital part of his business which became Cutler Repaving, Inc. of Lawrence, Kansas. She was the church organist in Palos Park, Illinois. Ruth had great love for and pride in her family: daughter Darlene Bohm (husband Arno) of Austin, Texas; son Doug (wife Martha) of Albuquerque; son-in-law Lowell and wife Linda of Lawrence, Kansas; grandchildren Mark Almon (wife Eileen), Lisa Almon, Daniel Wiley (wife Meggan) and Susan Wiley. She had four great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and even “great, great greats”. She was preceded in death by her daughter Diane Almon. Ruth showed her love of family by cooking. Even at age 96, she baked the family favorites, snowballs and pecan rolls. She was an avid birder and a skilled crossword puzzler. In Austin, Ruth was a long time volunteer for Reading for the Blind and a frequent concert goer. Ruth relocated to Albuquerque in 2003. She loved walking the ditches with the family dogs and she loved seeing the roadrunners, cranes and all valley wildlife. She was a life long learner, always interested in birds, words, recipes, music, books, people. She greatly appreciated her good friends and neighbors at Cimino Compound. As she wished, her remains are donated to UNM Medical School and no service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, if desired please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

CHAND, AMER Loving husband, brother, uncle and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the age of 73. He was born in Marysville, CA to Karmen and Cirila and a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years. Amer was a retired Major who dedicated many years to the Air Force. He enjoyed referring International Volleyball and Officiated for the Olympic Trials. He was a well-educated man who held various educational degrees. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry and Dave Chand and Jose Torres Sr. Amer is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Niki; brother, Roy Chand and sister, Leti Navarro, both of Yuba City, CA.; numerous nieces, nephews; cousins; extended relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will take place at Garcia Mortuary in the Chapel of Angels on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 10:00 am. EWING, LOUIS &Quot;BUB&Quot; Age 88, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his home on February 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Weston. He is survived by his five children, Robert Ewing and wife Hilda, Tony Ewing and wife Shirley, Paul Ewing and wife Josie, Evelyn Ewing-Lujan and husband Gilbert, and Lawrence Ewing. After he raised his five children he raised three more children, Steven Garcia, Angelica Ewing-Sanchez and husband Phil, Lisa Ewing-Moreno and husband Eddie. Heis also survived by 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was a Veteran of the United States Marines and served in WWII in Iwo Jima and Midway. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Final visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Church with a Communion Service to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. A 1:30 p.m. Committal Service will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Garcia, Paul Ewing, Brandon Ewing, Lawrence Ewing Jr., Tony Ewing and Eddie Gallegos.
