BACON, MURRAY G. Age 87, passed February 17, 2013 after a long illness. He was born June 17, 1925 in Lorimor, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Florence Bacon, and his sister, Catheryn Jean Louis. Murray served in the U. S. Navy on a ship repair base in the Philippines during WWII then continued his education at the University of Iowa earning a business degree in 1950. He set up his own business of developing systems and providing programmers for large mainframe users in the St. Louis area. He retired in 1987 and moved to Albuquerque to live with his sister, Jean, until her death in 2011. Murray became a Mason in March 1947 in Lorimor, IA and was an active member in Scottish Rite and Shriners International the rest of his life. He held offices in Sons of the American Revolution and Mayflower Society. Murray had the reputation of being a true philanthropist and the ultimate kind gentleman. GROVES, HOWARD FRANCIS Age 86, passed away with his loving family by his side, Saturday, February 23, 2013. He is survived by daughter, Beverlee Groves and her better half, Pat Armstrong; granddaughter, LaShanna and husband Chris Hernandez; and grandson, Kenneth and wife Christine Reese; great-grandchildren, Kaleia, Malikai, Kaiden and Karson; sisters, Doris and husband Rev. HINSON, PHILLIP M. Age 62, born in Jonesboro, AR on July 15, 1950 but then a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Thursday February 21, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his mother Bonnie Hinson; his children James Hinson and Patricia Hinson (James Allbrooks); grandchildren Taylor Hinson, Tre Lovato, and Haley Hinson; sisters Pam (PJ) Baker, and Suzanne Hinson Howell. He also leaves his longtime love and partner, Diane Moser and her daughters Jennifer, Amy and Lindsey. Phil was preceded in death by his father James Hinson. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, was a Christian and loved his family above all else. Phil lived his life to the fullest in everything he did, and was a strong influence on many people during his life. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, March 1st, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. The family wishes to thank the compassionate doctors, nurses and caregivers at the VA Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Phil during his illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Emmel, and father Charles Koehler. Pauline is survived by her mother, Dorothy Koehler; sister, Leone Peters and husband, Bill of Albuquerque; two daughters, Phyllis (Modesto) Sanchez and Debbie (Rick) Morris both of Edgewood; grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, Lloyd of Flint, Michigan and DeVel Madrid of Albuquerque; nieces, Lynn (Paddy) Downey of Hobbs, Carolyn (Talal) Mourad of Las Lunas and Jeanette (Bill) Slichenmyer of Sherborn, Mass; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Among her favorite activities were oil painting, working in the yard and traveling with family. BARTHOLDI, JOHN H. &Quot;JACK&Quot; Age 91, was born in Duluth, Minnesota and passed away on February 22, 2013 after a valiant struggle with a long illness. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved son, Lane Bartholdi. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma. Jack served proudly with the US Army Airborne, in the European Theater from 1942-1945, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the War and his university graduation, Jack and Norma moved to Albuquerque in 1950. He was a teacher at MacArthur Elementary, and Albuquerque High School for many years, before he went on to become one of the first computer technology instructors at TVI (now CNM). Jack had an encyclopedic knowledge of main frame systems, wrote, and provided instruction for generations of students beginning in the 1970′s and moving into the digital age. During his hiatuses, Jack served as a consultant to the “labs” as well as to many community organizations. Jack served in every leadership position within the Albuquerque Area of Educational Retirees group, and enjoyed his time with the Albuquerque Moon Watch Team. Jack was an Elder and a Deacon at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Jack and Norma loved to travel, and were able to visit nearly all of Western Europe, with a foray into Russia, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Jack was universally acknowledged to be a kind and gentle man, who cherished his wife. He had a wry sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 3:00pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name maybe made to St. Andrew Building Fund.

BERNELL, BETTY K. age 62, died peacefully in her sleep on January 28, 2013. Her body was worn out but she kept her wit, sense of humor and a passionate interest in progressive politics until the end. She is survived by her long time partner and care giver Suzan Davis of Albuquerque; nieces Cathy Bernell and Dr. Julie Bernell of the Houston area; nephew Robert Bernell of Beijing, China; and many friends. DEW, ELIZABETH THERESA &Quot;BETTY&Quot; Age 79, born in Liberty, Texas on November 8, 1933, passed away Sunday morning, February 24th, 2013, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Betty graduated in 1951 from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX, and married Russell E. Dew, Jr. on March 12, 1953. An employee of Sears Roebuck and Co. for 35 years, Betty started her career in the layaway and catalogue department in McAllen, Texas, and transferred to Albuquerque in 1963 to work at the Gibson store location, and later moved to the new Sears store when it opened in Coronado Center. There, she rose through the ranks of the accounting department, and ultimately was promoted to Manager of Human Resources, a position she held until her retirement. She was an avid gardener, bridge player, and adventuresome cook, who loved quilting, crocheting, and solving the daily Albuquerque Journal crossword puzzle. She was an active member of the Albuquerque Kiwanis Club for many years, and especially enjoyed volunteering during the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival. She was a longtime member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. Proceeded in death by Russell in May 1996 after 44 years of marriage. Betty is survived by her daughter, Therese (Dew) Griffiths and husband Scott of Houston, TX; her son John Dew and wife Alice of Mt. Home, ID; two brothers, Larry Fealy and wife Irena of Apple Valley, CA; Michael Fealy and wife Dorris of Beeville, TX; five grandchildren, Devin Griffiths and wife Meg of Los Angeles, CA; Megan Griffiths of Columbia, SC; Alicia Ballor and husband Mike of Wheatland, CA; grandson Joshua Dew and wife Lindy of Mt. Home, ID; Justin Dew of Nampa, ID; Samuel Baxter, Jr. of Seattle, WA; Tammy Barney and husband Mark of Mt. Home, ID; and Debbie Schnell and husband Kent of Stanfield, OR; and eight great grandchildren; and Ginger, who brought her joy, love, and unswerving loyalty to the very end. BURNAM, EDWARD &Quot;BUZZ&Quot; Age 98, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and two wives. He is survived by his daughter, Kay (Ray) Myer; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Born in Elk City, OK into a musical family, he grew up singing and playing bass and guitar. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950 to work with Dick Bills western band. He later formed his own band and worked in local night clubs, the Chesterfield Club and the Hitching Post. He also managed the Paradise Club in Tijeras Canyon in mid 60′s. He had a magnetic personality and always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He enjoyed cookies and candy and playing dominos. A celebration of Buzz’s life will be held March 23, 2013, 1:00pm at the home of his daughter. Call 323-2965 for further details.
