Mary Lou is survived by husband of 59 years, George A. Jane studied classical piano for 12 years and won many musical awards. She was known for her marvelous sense of humor and love of animals. EYSTER, EUGENE HENDERSON Laboratory retiree, Eugene Henderson Eyster of Los Alamos passed away at Sombrillo Care Center on February 17, 2013. Gene was 98 years old. He was born on March 21, 1914 in Wheaton, Minnesota. He married Joyce Krenz, also of rural Minnesota on January 6, 1942. They celebrated 71 years of marriage this past January. They spent four years at the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, followed by work in Indianhead, Maryland and Washington, D. C. In 1948 they came to Los Alamos. Gene retired from the Lab in 1980. Gene graduated from Wheaton High School. He received his BS from the University of Minnesota in 1935. He studied at the University of Michigan and received his PhD. from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California in 1938. Gene enjoyed and deeply cared for his work in Los Alamos. Those were exciting years. He was a good father and fine husband. His family is proud of his accomplishments. Gene is survived by his wife, Joyce; and by five children Susan Roybal, Peter and wife Kathy, James, wife Jacque, Barbara, husband Keith Van Pelt and Robert; his brother Bruce; 12 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. Gene was a founder and member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He served there in many ways. He was the instrumental in the building of Sombrillo Care Center. Gene and Joyce have lived in the same town, gone to the same church, lived in the same house and with the same spouse all the years in Los Alamos. It has been good. Thank you to all who have made his years so good. A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene’s name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road, Los Alamos, NM 87544.

HASSELSTROM, BARBARA ANN Age 81, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013. Barbara was born on March 28, 1931, the daughter of Wencil and Victoria Krall Schultz in Antigo, WI. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 52 years, Donald Hasselstrom; her parents; her brother, Gene Schultz; sister, Virginia Schultz Modl. Barb is survived by her two children, Karen H. Bradley and husband Douglas, Mary V. Towne and husband Jason, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Jane Lindborg, Liam Browning, Aidan Towne and granddaughter on the way, Olivia Towne. Barb was a dedicated volunteer with St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe for many years, and more recently a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Rio Rancho. Barb, who cherished her grandchildren and beloved cat, Licorice, was a dear friend to many and will be missed by all. HERRMANN, DEE (ODELIA) Age 65, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on September 22, 1947. She was a passionate English teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools for 31 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Hans Herrmann; children, Dee Dee Griffin (Justin), Kristin Herrmann, and Jimmy Herrmann (Angela) and four furry children, Squirt, Emma, Duke, and Tommy; grandchildren, Alice and Molly Herrmann; and her younger brother, Father Jerry Johnson. Dee was preceded in death by her father, Adrian Johnson; mother, Leila Johnson; sister, Marie Cowan; brothers, Jay Johnson, Jim Johnson, and Michael Johnson. She was a lover of family, God, friends, students, dogs, literature, grammar, flowers, and card games. Dee’s heart shined brighter than a full moon on a clear New Mexico night. She devoted her life to showing the utmost love and support to her family as well as educating children. Her laugh, love, and smile will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She owned Crosswinds restaurant, loved to crochet and cross word puzzles. For the last 10 years she resided at Los Volcanes senior citizen home. Kathy was a loving mother, grandmother devoted to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Lyndia and husband, David Chavez, Michael and wife, Louisa Gallegos, Elizabeth and husband, Anthony Zamora, Darlene Gallegos, Steven Gallegos, Laura Gallegos, Eileen and husband, Michael Prince; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She loved all her friends and Raymond Prince was her best friend, she loved to shop with her daughters, cook for neighbors, loved to watch Tiger Woods and loved her candy. DEBUCK, JOHN GILBERT &Quot;JACK&Quot; Age 80, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, with his family by his side. Jack was born on November 22, 1932 to Margaret and Gilbert DeBuck in Detroit, Michigan and was happily an only child for 12 years, until his pesky brother, Robert (Bob) came along and stole his parent’s affections. While a major annoyance in toddlerhood, Bob quickly stole Jack’s heart, too, and together they weathered the storms of life’s ups and downs. Jack served in the Merchant Marines at the age of 16 and completed a tour with the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Forrestal. Post service, he earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Wayne State University, and a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of New Mexico. Jack taught math in secondary schools for several years in Albuquerque and Australia, until he became a civil engineer with the Corps of Engineering and the U.S. Forest Service, from which he retired. An avid outdoorsman, Jack spent many hours hiking in the Sandia Mountains daily and loved his camping trips with his sons and grandsons. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy; his sons David DeBuck, Rob DeBuck (wife, Linda); grandsons, Sean, Kyle, Ryan, and Derek; his loving brother, Bob DeBuck (wife, Ruth); and many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and the greatest loss of his life, his grandson, Jesse. Jack loved his grandchildren deeply and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make them happy, and protected them fiercely like no other. The family would like to thank Adam, Grace, and Cesar for their loving care and attention to Jack during his stay at Grace Adult Care Home Assisted Living Center. DEL REAL, ENRIQUE SR. May 6, 1943 – March 4, 2013 Our husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend has left to be with Jesus. We have lost part of our hearts but we know how fortunate we were to have had such a wonderful man in our lives. As one granddaughter said, “This morning the world lost someone I’ve never seen angry. Someone I never heard say anything negative about anyone. Someone who has never been anything but kind to everyone he knew.” Kiki was born in Sinaloa, Mexico almost 70 years ago. As a young man he moved to Los Angeles and married Cecilia Tapia, his wife for 43 years. Together they had one son, Enrique Jr., but Kiki became a loving step-dad to nine children: Prescilla Perez, Sandra Bush and Glinda Merino, as well as Ted, Joe, James, Robert, Mary and Chris Tapia. Kiki died at home on March 4th. We will always miss his music, cooking, and his kindness. Thank you, Dad, for being such a big part of our lives. We will always love you.

COHN, CONSTANCE JUNE &Quot;CONNIE&Quot; Of Albuquerque, died March 4, 2013 of a brain tumor. She was 64. Born in Schenectady, NY to the late Florence Wittlin Cohn and the late Honorable Morris Marshall Cohn, she graduated from Linton High School in 1966. She then came to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico, from which she graduated in 1970. She received a Masters of Urban Planning from the University of Southern Illinois In 1971 and a J.D. from the Western State University College of Law in 1982. For 25 years, criminal prosecution was Ms. Cohn’s passion. She was a Deputy District Attorney of Albuquerque in the Prior Repeat Offender Division, Deputy District Attorney in Tulare County, CA, and a Special Prosecutor for Rio Rancho. Between 1973 and 1979, she worked for the New Mexico Governor’s Council on Criminal Justice Planning. Ms. Cohn is survived by her daughter, Mallory Olisar, and her son-in-law, Jeffery Olisar of Albuquerque; sister Winnie Borden and Neal Borden of Baltimore, MD; brother Larry Cohn and Betsy Cohn of Tucson, AZ; niece Laura Borden Richter and Joel Richter of Israel; nephews Adam Borden and Meredith Borden of Baltimore, Benjamin Cohn and Connie Shih Cohn of Santa Monica, CA, and Robert Cohn and Naomi Cohn of New York. She is also survived by four great-nieces; two great nephews; and best family friend Jo Rutar. Ms. Cohn was an avid skier, world traveler and estate sale devotee. She loved to entertain and was an excellent cook and baker. An active member of B’nai Israel, Ms. Cohn was the past President of the Synagogue’s Nursery School. She was also a member of the Albuquerque International Association. NORDHAUS, MARJORIE EVARTS Marjorie was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 28, 1920, the only child of Anna Moness and Edward Evarts. She attended Smith College, and in her junior year when WWII prevented her from studying abroad, she attended Radcliffe College for a year. There she met her first husband, George P. Springer, who was a student at Harvard on a Refugee Scholarship. Marge went on to attend Simmons College where she received her Master of Social Work. While living in Boston, George and Marge had three children. The family moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where Marge worked as a clinical social worker at the Yale Child Study Center, and George was the Assistant Dean of the Yale Graduate School. The Springers moved to NM in 1965 when George was appointed Dean of the Graduate School at UNM. Marge took a position at UNM and at the Albuquerque Child Guidance Clinic. Marge’s second husband was Robert J. Nordhaus, (Bob), a New Mexico attorney, ski and tramway pioneer, and businessman. They enjoyed many happy years in the home they built at the foot of the Sandia Mountains. In later life they lived at the Montebello Senior Living Community. Marge continued to work at the Albuquerque Child Guidance Clinic until her retirement at age 80. Marge is survived by her son Peter Springer and daughter-in-law Gail Springer of Santa Fe; her daughter Lisbeth Springer of Santa Barbara, California; granddaughter Jillian Springer of Oakland, CA; step-sons Robert Nordhaus, Jr., Richard Nordhaus, William Nordhaus; step-daughter Betsy Messica, and their families. She was predeceased by her first husband George in 1972, her second husband Bob in 2007, and her son Paul in 2012. A gathering will be held at the Albuquerque Jewish Community Center at 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 5:00pm. Conrad was preceded in death by his mother, Adelaida J. Beck (Tafoya); grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his father, Serge W. Beck; brothers, Vincent, Eric, and Brian (Dr. Rosa) Beck; his sisters, Debbie Adams (Dave Olivarez), Neva Beck and Lori Beck; son and daughter, Clint and Faith Beck; several nieces and nephews; many other family members and friends. Conrad loved hunting, fishing, camping, his creation of fold-a-boats, he was a taxidermist and a turkey calling champion who loved the great outdoors. BLAIR, JUNE S. BLAIR Mrs. E. Frank Blair Jr. died Friday, March 8, 2013 in Albuquerque, NM. A native of Roswell, NM June Blair was born April 25, 1926, the daughter of Henry C. and Versa Stephens Sorrells. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1943, where she ranked third in her class. June married E. Frank Blair Jr., of Roswell, August 18, 1944 in Chicago where he was serving in the US Navy aviation cadet program. Later he was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia where they remained until the end of WWII. While the Blairs were stationed in Norfolk, June commenced a 41 year Federal career working for the US army at Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation. When they returned to Roswell in 1946, June transferred to the US Army Air Corps and became Executive Secretary to Col. William Blanchard commanding officer of the 509th Atomic Bomb B-29 Wing. June took a leave of absence following the birth of her son Stephen. When he started school she returned to the Federal service at WAF Base as a court reporter. Active in community affairs, June was a charter member of the Assistance League of Roswell and of her church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Upon the closure of Walker Air Force Base, the Blairs moved to Merced, California where June continued her career as a Federal Court Reporter with the Air Force. During her career she traveled throughout the Southwest, sought after for highly classified cases, as she was one of the few court reporters with top secret clearance. When the opportunity arose in the late 70′s the Blairs returned to Albuquerque, where June continued her court reporting duties at Kirkland AFB. She retired there after 41 years of federal service. Shortly before her retirement she was honored to have a new court room at Kirkland Air Force Base named in her honor. In Albuquerque, June was a member of the Lew Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of Saint Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church. She is predeceased by her husband Frank, son Stephen, her parents, and her sister Ada Robinson. Survivors include her nieces Whitney Blair, Kelly Robbins, Lane Leadingham and nephew Dr. Chris Robinson. The family request contributions are made to a charity of choice. Graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the family plot at South Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
